Visitors are killing koi in a Chinese pond by flinging cash into it

Despite multiple warnings and signs put up at a popular scenic spot in Yantai City, in Shandong, China, Chinese tourists continue to pollute the pond by throwing dollar notes in to wish for good luck.

In Asia, koi is believed to bring good luck and fortune to people. The koi pond recently received a flood of visitors which have thrown large amounts of dollar notes and coins into the pond, reported the South China Morning Post.

The park’s management staff have told tourists that the pollution was endangering the lives of the koi, and that many have died as a result.
